Your home energy assessment - what to expect

On the day

Your home energy assessment will take no more than 30-45 minutes, where our assessor will:

Measure walls, windows and other surfaces that affect heat loss
Check what insulation you have (e.g. in the loft)
Look at things like your heating system, windows and ventilation
Ask about your experience living there (e.g. warmth, comfort, condensation)
Take simple measurements and some photos — to help understand how your home is doing in terms of energy use and what features it already has (like the boiler or loft insulation)

If it’s cold enough, we may use an infrared camera to help spot where heat may be leaking. We'll also measure temperature and humidity to check for any risk of damp.

We also want to make sure that any improvements we might suggest are right for how you use energy. To help with this, we’ll need your annual energy use in kWh. You can find this on your energy bill, so please have one available. The examples below show where to look.

You’ll always be told what’s happening and why. You can ask questions at any time — and stop the visit if you ever feel uncomfortable.

After the assessment

You’ll receive a short written summary showing what was found — including:

How your home holds heat
Where it might be losing energy
What types of improvements could help in future.

You’ll receive your £50 Love2Shop e-gift card once:

Your home energy assessment has been completed
The assessor has seen your energy bill (you can send it after the visit if needed)

We’ll then send your e-gift card to your mobile number and/or email within 2 working days.

If you’d prefer a physical gift card, we’ll send you a Sainsbury’s one instead of Love2Shop. It should arrive within two weeks of your home energy assessment.
