Your Castle Vale, your energy future: see what's next
We've published two new reports sharing what we've learned through Powering Up Castle Vale and how local people are helping shape plans for the neighbourhood's energy future.
The project has explored how homes use energy, the potential for Castle Vale to generate its own electricity and how community ownership could help keep the benefits local. That could mean lower energy bills, more jobs and training opportunities, and money being invested back into Castle Vale.
A key outcome of the work so far is plans for a community-owned Solar Cooperative, informed by technical studies and the recommendations of the Powering Up Castle Vale Citizens’ Jury, made up of 12 local residents. The Jury has focused on making energy more affordable, creating opportunities for local people and making sure everyone has a chance to benefit, whether they own or rent their home.
The reports share what we've found, what residents have recommended and what needs to happen next.

This report explores the project's findings, including home energy assessments, feasibility studies, community engagement and recommendations for the next stages of work.
Hear directly from the residents who examined the proposals and made recommendations on community ownership, fairness and how the benefits of local energy should be shared.
